If you are connecting to Allegro, memory limitations should not be a problem in Composer, as Composer will only read in enough triple to display some of the data (see Preferences > TopBraid Composer > Prebuild caches for properties for a list of cached proeprties). Are you sure the database is empty or just that it lacks sufficient type definitions to display the class hierarchy? Try the Triples view, look at properties, apply a SPARQL query to find what is in the repository and in what format.
