John; If you enter the text in a Composer text area, you can use ctl- return to place line breaks in the text. These will be preserved in any RDF text serialization. It's not clear what you mean by "querying via http", but HTML browsers will interpret any whitespace as a space unless otherwise instructed by a tag.
