Tony; Keep in mind that SPARQL 1.1 is still in the working group,
albeit in final review.  One this is completed, and Jena ARQ has all
of the functionality, we will upgrade in our next release.  I'm
guessing some time in summer 2012.

In the meantime, spif:cast performs the same operations as SPARQL
1.1's strdt.

However, keep in mind that most RDF/SPARQL processors support only a
few xsd types.  In this case, I'd suggest using tops:split instead of
xsd:token.
