Tim,

we are currently scheduling for beyond 3.6 and upgrading Jena is high on the agenda. This may include bringing Lucene in (back) and your input is appreciated.

For auto-complete I am not optimistic that Lucene can help that much without further adjustments, because we do not only need a simple string index, but also group those strings by rdf:types for performance reasons. We already have native dictionary implementations that do this.

Another difficulty is that TopBraid (e.g. in EVN) relies on different graph implementations that sit on top of native graphs, e.g. to serve as buffer with edited triples. Those would not be seen by Lucene without further work. So a proper integration is not trivial, and we cannot promise anything at this stage without some convincing paying customer's interest.

Regards,
Holger

Hi,

The latest version of LARQ now has the ability to automatically update the indices when triples are added and removed using the Jena APIs.

This would really help with a number of use cases including searching and type ahead.

From below: "The main new feature in this release is support for updating the Lucene index as
RDF statements are added/removed to the Jena Model via the Jena APIs.
Moreover, LARQ now depends on Apache Lucene 3.5.0"

Are there plans to make use of this functionality within the TopBraid product line?

Thanks,

Tim

Subject: [ANN] Release of Apache Jena LARQ 1.0.0-incubating

LARQ 1.0.0-incubating has been released, this is the first release of LARQ as
separate module and under the Apache License.

LARQ is a combination of ARQ and Lucene aimed at providing developers with the
ability to perform free text searches within their SPARQL queries.

Documentation for LARQ is available here:

== About This Release

The main new feature in this release is support for updating the Lucene index as
RDF statements are added/removed to the Jena Model via the Jena APIs.
Moreover, LARQ now depends on Apache Lucene 3.5.0.

== Status

Apache Jena is an effort undergoing incubation at the Apache
Software Foundation (ASF), sponsored by the Apache Incubator PMC.

Incubation is required of all newly accepted projects until a
further review indicates that the infrastructure, communications,
and decision making process have stabilized in a manner consistent
with other successful ASF projects.

While incubation status is not necessarily a reflection of
the completeness or stability of the code, it does indicate
that the project has yet to be fully endorsed by the ASF.

Jena project you can go to the following page:
