The use case for extending SMS with custom modules derives from the need to integrate external Java programs for the analysis of data security policies (expressed in an RDF version of XACML) with semantic analysis in SMS. The custom modules created with the SDK would provide seamless integration into the analysis workflow. An alternative approach would be to wrap the analytics programs in web services, however this would be more difficult for creating a workflow of analysis modules with well defined connections.
