Yelena, This sounds very similar to the GTK3 issues that others have run into when trying to run Composer under Ubuntu 16: https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/topbraid-users/IyVOnIzX20g
Essentially, the solution is to just switch Composer to run under GTK2.
