upon reflection,  I think maybe just a simple ontology that imports a model 
for an ontology register, and a script to populate it from EDG searches and 
set up workflows to capture desirable metadata might work and leverage EDG 
best. I actually started something like this once but my workspace got 
corrupted and lost it.
