Just to close this email thread here in case someone else runs into a similar 
issue. Tim had sent me the example off-list, and there is no depth limit. 
However, we found that the tree is using the sh:node constraints for the 
property and there were conflicting sh:node constraints on the class that was 
reached at the tree level because there was another sh:node to drive a 
ValueTableViewer. Long story short, the Assets Hierarchy will first look for 
sh:node constraints and only expand the properties listed in those, and only 
then look at the declared sh:class of the respective property.
