If you are running into trouble laying out your diagrams (I assume you are using UML diagrams, but the same should hold true for the others as well), you can create several diagrams (e.g. from the Outline View). An element in the model can appear in zero or more diagrams. E.g. if you have a large Class Diagram with many Packages, you could consider creating separate diagrams for each package.
