Hi,
Since Subversion is just a pain in the ass to install and there are lots of
other (D)VCS around, isn't there a general team access the better way?

I personally dislike the Subversion plugin, especially this damn annoying
connector install dialog.

Basically the standard SVN plugin which's implemented in Eclipse ( I simply
downloaded the TOPCASED RCP.jar and unpacked it, that's what I'm using). Other
than that, I didn't add or delete any plugins.

I've discovered another workaround:

After closing the model in Papyrus and reopening it again all updates are
shown. Still no real solution in sight…

Now there's another peculiar thing I've noticed. Let's say I'm working on my
project and my current version is revision 10. Now I'm commiting my changes and
thus creating revision 11. When I refresh the SVN History now, revision 11 is
correctly shown. But my local version, on which I've created revision 11 and
which's therefore implementing ALL changes which happened between 10 and 11 is
STILL revision 10. The content is revision 11, but the label's revision 10.
When I update it to revision 11, exactly nothing happens in the model, but now
it's correctly revision 11.
Possibly a(nother) bug…?

Betreff: [Topcased-users] Working with SVN - updates are only present AFTER
restarting TOPCASED

Hello,

I'm currently testing TOPCASED for collaborative work, using TOPCASED. But
unfortunately, I encountered a serious problem. Here's my test setup:

I have two computers connected to a network drive, one using Win XP 32 bit and
the other Win 7 64 bit. Both are running TOPCASED. The first one has a project
I want to share. Now I'm using TortoiseSVN to create a repository on the
network drive.  Then I'm using the Collaborative Work tutorial (Team -> Share
Project) to put my project into the repository. Next step is loading the
project from the repository into the Win 7 machine. I'm doing this via File ->
New -> Other -> Project from SVN.
Now I have the project on both PCs and hooked up to the same repository, with
all SVN commands (Commit, Update, etc.) available. But now it gets confusing:

When I change the project on one PC, commit to the repository, and update the
local project on the other PC,  the History option there correctly shows me the
new revision. But NO changes have been inherited. When I close TOPCASED now and
restart it again, only THEN I do see changes. Moreover, when I work further
with the updated (but unchanged) local project and commit those changes, the
ones before are forfeit.

That my be a little complicated to understand, so here's a little example with
a project containing only ONE diagram but several comments.

So here's our starting point, two PCs, both connected to the repository and
revision 1 with ONE comment

PC 1, Revision 1: Comment 1
PC 2, Revision 1: Comment 1

Now I'm adding a second comment to PC 2 and commit my changes to the
repository. But I'm not (yet) updating PC 2:

PC 1, Revision 2: Comment 1, Comment 2
PC 2, Revision 1: Comment 1

Now I'm updating PC 2 and the trouble begins.

PC 1, Revision 2: Comment 1, Comment 2
PC 2, Revision 2: Comment 1

As you can see, despite being in the right revision (#2), Comment 2 is missing
- PC 2 is STILL displaying the same project as when being in revision 1.
Now I have two choices. Choice one would be a restart of TOPCASED on PC 2:

PC 1, Revision 2: Comment 1, Comment 2
PC 2, Revision 2 (after TOPCASED restart): Comment 1, Comment 2

Choice two would be ignoring that changes haven't been applied and working
further. So now I'm adding a Comment 3 on PC 2 and commit my changes to the
repository:

PC 1, Revision 2: Comment, Comment 2
PC 2, Revision 3: Comment 1, Comment 3

Next step would be updating PC 1 to revision 3 and restarting to see the
changes. But now, Comment 2 is missing on PC 1 as well!

PC 1, Revision 3: Comment 1, Comment 3
PC 2, Revision 3: Comment 1, Comment 3

F5 or right button -> refresh didn't work either…

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks for all answers.
