As an Americunt, I take exception to that! From where I stand, the issue seems much more to do with SIF's policies not matching their founding principles than some broader outside influence. And of course this decision to blacklist people has led to a huge backlash. To claim that they had no choice but to blacklist Laura Poitras is total horseshit and gives the organizers *far* too much credit. They did it either because they were cowards or because they're trying to curry favor.
The fact that the theme this year is surveillance and privacy, yet they explicitly excluded Poitras should be taken as proof that they don't want a true discussion of the true impact that these surveillance policies have.
