Hello Andrew, As you can see in Webster Dictionary (http://www.webster-dictionary.org/d.aspx?w=persian), The English word, PERSIAN means: Of or pertaining to Persia, to the Persians, or to their language. The word Farsi (Fârsi) is a malformed of word Parsi. In fact, it is an Arabic word for Pârsi. Because Arabic alphabet has no letter P, this letter changes to F. To purify their language, nowadays Iranians try to use as little as possible Arabic words. Even Microsoft uses the word Persian instead of Farsi in most of their softwares. I hope you find this explanation enough to change the word Farsi to Persian in TOR.
Many thanks in advance, Zagros -----Original Message----- From: Andrew Lewman [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: vrijdag 19 juli 2013 16:32 To: [email protected] Cc: [email protected] Subject: Re: [tor-translation] Persian NOT Farsi On Fri, 19 Jul 2013 15:27:24 +0200 Zagros <[email protected]> wrote: > Dear sirs, > > The language wich Iranians speak is Persian (Pe) and not Farsi (Fa). > Please change it in your website and your products. > I appreciate your effort to help people with your nice software. Hello Zagros, The Iranians who translate our content call it either Persian or Farsi. Why do you believe it's only persian? -- Andrew http://tpo.is/contact pgp 0x6B4D6475 _______________________________________________ tor-translation mailing list [email protected] https://lists.torproject.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/tor-translation
