However implementation of DataSourceFactory by org.apache.torque.dsfactory.SharedPoolDataSourceFactory does NOT throw TorqueException. For one, it seems very odd that this is not an error by Java. I would say this is a bug and SharedPoolDataSourceFactory should be marked as throwing a TorqueException.
