I'm just about to start doing some major re-coding based on this issue and wanted to bounce it off the developer list to see if anyone sees any problems that might delay it getting integrated. (Some folks here will grumble big time if we're using customized 3rd party packages...)
Here's the Scarab info: http://issues.apache.org/scarab/issues/id/TRQS323 Currently, all Column objects generated for in the om map don't have a size set. For most columns, this is not a big issue. However, if you want to use the OM for entry overflow checking, it would be nice to have this information available. Setting the size for all object types across all databases would be hard (how do you represent 5,2?), but if we limit it to just character based fields, it is easier. Plus, this is the one field type people want the size of... Attached to the Scarab issue is a new version of MapBuilder.vm that does this. It checks if the object type of the column is '""' and there is an associated size (CLOB's don't have sizes). If these condition are met, it includes the size in the column creation code.
