I think the current state of internationalization is that it has not been
done yet.
If this is correct, then you would have to do some work on the code before
it will be ready for translation, like ensuring all translatable strings are
enclosed in _() calls.
You are more than welcome to attack this problem. I think that when the
first translation is done, others will follow quickly.
