  I'm pretty sure I know what caused this, as it happened to me this week.
py2exe pulls in DLLs from your $PATH to fill symbol requirements.  It will pull
libglib from one place and libpango from another if you let it.  Also, the GTK
folks have nicely changed the APIs of at least some of the DLLs without 
incrementing
their version numbers.  Thus you get this situation where the resulting dist\
directory is disfunctional.

Making sure C:\GTK\bin is first in your path seems to help quite a bit.  
Recopying
\lib and \etc into the thg-installer\dist also helps.  I even went so far as to 
uninstall
TortoiseHg while I built a new package with the new GTK code.

I've updated the wiki with the packages I'm using to build the new nightly 
packages
this week.
