I've been adding the following code to the windows that are problematic for
me.
self.set_position(gtk.WIN_POS_CENTER)
You can read about the window placement constants here:
http://www.pygtk.org/docs/pygtk/gtk-constants.html#gtk-window-position-constants
Since these windows function as dialogs and aren't meant for long duration use,
I think Esc should close them. This would be similar to how TortoiseSVN works.
