  I'll probably add this soon.  My operational plan:

The branch entry box (above the commit message pane) will be converted into a 
push button widget with label: 'branch: default'.

When pushed, it will open a small dialog box with radio settings such that the 
user can either set a new branch name **or** set the '--close-branch' flag, 
**or** change nothing.  There will be a comment telling the user that no change 
takes affect until the next commit.

When the dialog is closed, the text of the button is changed to indicate the 
operation that will happen on the next commit:  Either 'new branch: newname' or 
'close branch: curname'.  Hitting the button again will allow the user to 
change their minds.
