Here is the change for commit, and a fix for hgshelve (linereader was moved, 
not added... sorry). Would it be better to try calling and catch TypeError?

Your plan for compatibility with hg sounds good. I look forward to cleaning 
up the code. :-)
Does the support for thg crew mean that workarounds are necessary while 
development and they are removed one week before publishing a new version? 
(Because hg stable tracks hg main for one week, see 
http://www.selenic.com/mercurial/wiki/TimeBasedReleasePlan)
Or after publishing?
