Thanks a lot for figuring this out.   I have updated my XP autobuild
box to use the Windows 7 SDK (a two-day trail of tears too sad to
detail here) and will update thg-winbuild to prefer this method if it
finds the SDK installed.

I'm glad we can build good thgshell binaries using tools from free downloads.

Now I'm curious if Python will use (or can be made to use) these
compilers to build C extensions.  Perhaps we can drop mingw entirely.
