The "compact graph" feature is nice, but it's hard to understand,
especially if one doesn't know about it. The first thought is that
"tortoisehg has a bug".

I suggest we make the first line of the compact branch dotted or
dashed, to imply that this is not really a child-parent relationship.
A mouse-over with tooltip explaining this and mentioning the "View →
Compact Graph" option would help even more.
