Thanks for sending the files. I was able recreate the problem you saw, on both
Windows and Unix platforms.

According to my editor (notepad++), your sql files are all encoded in "UCS-2
Little Endian" format, and somehow Mercurial treated it as binary. As an 
experiment,
convert the files to UTF-8 format fixes the problem.

I think it'd be best for you to bring the issue to Mercurial's mailing list.
