We were, uhm, induced to upgrade our GTK version to 2.18 for both security fixes and to resolve some rendering issues on Windows 7. We realized a bit too late that the Windows theme in 2.18 is a step backwards from our previous version (2.16). The CTRL-F changes were most likely a side effect of the upgrade as well. We plan to improve the theme. FWIW, both x86 and x64 have the exact same Python and GTK code.
