I don't think anybody mentioned this yet, but the first line is treated specially since it kind of forms a subject like for your commit message. If you think of it like that, then I think it makes much more sense not to write a long commit message in that line. > Thinking about it more - manual wrapping just seems so primitive, > whether it is in the commit dialog or if it has to be done because a > command line tool doesn't wrap, or a generated web page doesn't wrap, > or wherever and whatever. Putting the commit message into <pre>...</pre> tags has the advantage that you can copy-paste things like code and stacktraces into your commit message. But I can of course understand why you might want to have the text reflown. My suggestion is to format the text in a markup language such as Markdown or reStructuredText and then make a small extension which will run the commit message through the corresponding filter on display in hgweb. > In 2010 who gives a heck about 72 characters when people have > everything from netbooks to 30"+ screens? I do, I have a 30" screen at home and it is exactly because it's so big that I never maximize my windows. In other words, I keep the lines short on purpose not because there is no room on my monitor, but because it looks and reads much better like that. -- Martin Geisler aragost Trifork Professional Mercurial support http://aragost.com/mercurial/ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ The Next 800 Companies to Lead America's Growth: New Video Whitepaper David G.
