All,
I am interested in assessing the viability of an open source curriculum in our Information Technology academic program. The program would use open source projects and open educational resources to teach the spectrum, from our general computer literacy courses (Linux desktop and OpenOffice rather than Windows and MS Office) to systems administration (Linux server/systems admin) and software development (using Eclipse, programming in PHP, Java; DBA with MySQL, PostgreSQL, for current OSS projects: Moodle, Sakai, Apache, OpenOffie, etc.).
The goal would to prepare students for careers in today's open development environments with direct experience in both the development methodologies and cultural practices associated with open source projects and the companies that participate.
As such, I am looking for examples from colleges and universities that have included open source in their curricula.
Any references would be appreciated, and thank you,
Patrick
