Excellent questions. Distribution could be an interesting conundrum as well. Perhaps we could open up a request for financial assistance (RFA) and evaluate grants as they come in. Since LinuxCon is in Boston, which I believe has a few universities, we may get a full complement of participants even without stipends, but it would be great to sponsor people to come if they are motivated but have little means. I suggest we concentrate on teachers & professors at this point. Also, Linux Foundation has some travel money available for developers and students.
I am also starting a room-sharing page for LinuxCon. The hotel looks pretty swanky and runs $170/night, which isn't bad if people want to double up. I'll post the link when the page is up. BTW - Sebastian and I talked this morning about basic organization activities, results to be posted this afternoon. The short version is: four 30-minute presentations from 10-12, break for lunch, then an unconference in the afternoon from 1-6 or so. If there is enough interest in presentations it would be possible to start earlier, but Sebastian is flying in at 8:40 that morning.
