I don't know what the precedent is at OSCON for more-than-2-person talks, but the two proposals sound extremely merge-able to me, and you have a nice spectrum - faculty with varying amounts of experience getting students involved open source, and who have quite different approaches (and audiences and institutions), plus Jeff from the industry side.
