You're right, Steve. I noticed that when Mel first published the application wiki page for comments.
I thought then, and do now, that offering applicants a promise of privacy for such information is appropriate. I also think, if anyone is to become a regular member of this particular community, it is often appropriate to contact that one directly. If you notice, many of the email addresses in the Roll Call and User: pages are obfuscated by reCAPTCHA. I've heard that is not an impenetrable method, but I edited them in because they are better than clear text. The instructions for using reCAPTCHA are found at http://www.google.com/recaptcha/mailhide/ You've probably also noticed I don't leave a simple clear text copy of my email address just laying about. The whitelist relay I use is spamgourmet.com. I can shut off any particular prefixed address at any time, which I will do for tos2011mar16.neophyte_...@ordinaryamerican.net at the appropriate time. I am open to learning more about Unsolicited Commercial Email (UCE or SPAM) reduction from anyone that knows better techniques. Welcome to TeachingOpenSource.org. I hope the relationship is lasting and mutually beneficial.
