This is a *great* point, Heidi - thanks for bringing it up. I'm happy to collect other weekly/monthly metrics too! Please, do suggest other things you'd like tracked... what *would* be useful, academic-portfolio-wise, for you? (Or for those of you in industry or with a background in industry, what would you want to show your boss?) Or for those of you getting into new FOSS communities... what stats would you like to know about them, the people in them, what stats would you like to have on yourself? I'd like to do the gruntwork heavy lifting here so we can all have useful data for whatever types of portfolios (academic, industry, foss, anything) we need to generate... and I want to start now, because yes, it *will* take years, and we probably won't even really know what we want to measure until after a couple years of measuring *something*. A caveat: my goal is to not have to collect more than 5 metrics manually at any given time, so I'd have to figure out how to script some of the others and slap them in a cron job before taking on more from the queue. ;-) --Mel _______________________________________________ tos mailing list tos@teachingopensource.org http://teachingopensource.org/mailman/listinfo/tos
