This happened to me. All my files were private (never shared publicly). I had my account in good standing for years (all with the same files). Anyone (e.g. nefarious hacker; Mega calls them "Complainant") who has a direct link to your Mega.co.nz files can report "Copyright Infringement" to Mega (Mega, in their TOS, does not investigate the Complainant authenticity -- they simply suspend your file, and maybe your account). Someone got ahold of several of my file links and reported them to Mega.co.nz on the same day. Mega suspended my account. They do offer a lengthy "Dispute" form (that takes a long time to manually fill out, and you have to reveal a lot of personal data). Also, each Disputed file must be claimed separately (I had over 20 files).
Bottom line: Don't trust Mega.co.nz But if you insist on using them (or you have legacy account with them) -- back your files onto a HDD, and have second Host account (preferably NOT with Mega)...just in case.
