On the album track, it's "kicked to death." Virgin balked at releasing
the single with that line as they feared that the horse-loving public in
England might get irate over a pop song about a horse being "kicked to
death" (not understanding that the horse is a person and the kicking is
metaphoric, of course).

Chas went back into the studio to voer dub the more PC line for the
single release, as detailed in my recent article on that very recording
session:
