MADNESS - COVENT GARDEN/ELECTRIC BALLROOM! -- THE SIGNING -- Hello fellow maddies!!!!! Here for you is a short review of today's happenings at the Doc Martens store in Covent Garden and the gig at the Electric Ballroom.. Got to Covent Garden for about 12.30pm and decided to check out the store inside. Lots of madness posters up on the walls and chains and barriers out ready for the signing. Managed to grab our boots and free book and also some posters that were behind the counter... Quite a few people were queing by about 1.30pm, with entertainment being provided by the covent garden street entertainers (although one guy was a bit naff!, the guy with the milk crates!!). At about 2ish, one of the staff members from the store started telling everyone that Madness were there but they were waiting for one member!!!.. Things finally got underway a while after and the queue began moving forward. Madness posters were up on the walls outside, but were soon stolen by maddies!!!! (can't leave anything these days!). The security guards were letting people in a few at a time to meet madness and get their books and boots signed. Initially it was everyone except kix (late again!), but he turned up a while later... They sat and signed untold amounts of things and grafittied on many of the posters that people had bought!!!. Things such as legs were even being signed!! was that you with the madness tatoo!???.... :) Food came around (for the band) a little later, with lee making the first snatch of a roll!!!.... The band continued to sign sign sign for the next hour or so...... -- THE GIG -- Things started out quiet at the EB, by about 5.30pm , there were just one or two people waiting outside (although I think these were just the public sheltering from the rain!!). By about 6.15 or so, about 30 people were waiting, and by 7.00pm, quite a crowd had formed. We got let in about 7.25pm and made our way to the front of the stage.. People slowly started to arrive and by about 8.00pm the support band came on......... After what seemed like ages, they were off, and then we waited til about 9.15 for the crew to arrange the stage (they took toooooo long in my opinion).. By now, the crowd were cheering for Madness and the place had begun to hot up somewhat.... Madness finally came on to the cheering audience and great they were tooo... They played... Lovestruck Johnny The Horse The Communicator One Step Beyond Drip Fed Fred Bed & Breakfast Man Our House My Girl House Of Fun Baggy Trousers Saturday Night, Sunday Morning Embarressment Grey Day and a few others (full listing soon!!))... The band were absolutely great, sounded good too and everyone was well into the swing of things. From the feel of the evening you could tell that madness have not lost their touch, far from it. They can still pull in the crowds and the place was jam packed (people were being pulled out at the front)!!... Overall, the evening was extremely enjoyable, apart from the idiot that pushed his way in front of myself and mad lizzie and then started jumping up and down on our toes (you know who you are!). Apart from that, great and well worth the 10 for the ticket... Anyway, its now 00:43 and time for bed... A full and more thorough review will be posted over the weekend, together with exclusive pictures of the signing, the gig and some video clips of the signing too!!!
