Hi all -

I was thrilled to see "5 Cuts" arrive in my mailbox this weekend. So
after pausing to do the happy dance once more by my mailbox, I rushed up
stairs and played it...for me and all my neighbors. ;) Fortunately
friends of ours have moved into the other 3 apartments in our house, so
rather than being annoyed they just all came up to see why I was rattling
their walls. :)

When my husband got home he was greeted by me happily dragging him by the
arm chanting, "come listen! come listen! come listen!" Don likes
Madness, but he just isn't *as* into them as I am. He listened to the
songs and didn't laugh at me for gushing, "Oooo!...this one's really
good...oh...and this part...did you hear that part?...lets play that one
again...oh...but wait...this next ones good too...

At the end of it all, he said that he thinks Madness has gotten better
over the years, and that musically and lyricly these songs were better
than much of their older stuff. Nice to hear a fairly objective review
(he wouldn't hestate to tell me it was crap if he thought so...and has
done so in the past)

So, anyway, here's my reveiw.

JTH I'd heard most of before. I don't care for the radio edit as well as
the original, but still an great song.

"Drip Fed Fred" is amazing! Someone said it was a departure for Madness,
but I thought it was pure classic style and would snuggle down cozily
with "Land of Hope and Glory" and "House of Fun". It's my favorite so
far!

"Elysium" (I may not be spelling that right...the cover is at home) was
such a pleasent suprise. The snippet in the Madely didn't do much for
me, but the full song is so very good! I'd rather have seen that as a
second single than JTH. And it immediatly displaced "Calling Cards" as
my favorite Madness piano piece. This song is all about Barso. Damn,
can he play! :)

"Saturday Night Sunday Morning" is the only song on here that didn't grab
me immediatly. But after repeated playings it really began to grow on
me. Those tend to be the songs that hold up the best over time, I think.
It's a great album song, though probably not a single.

"Wizard" is pretty much what I expected from the Madely, and very
enjoyable. I could see it being a single, but not as strong as "Drip Fed
Fred" or "Elysium".

Anyway, that it from me. Can't wait for the album! (November 1st now?!)

Cheers!
- E.
