Hello all you Maddies out there,
Here's all the info the HMV website has on the new Madness releases. The
prices are there because you can order from them online (www.hmv.co.uk).
Can The Lot *really* be only 24.49??????? And is it really out the same
day as "Wonderful"???? Anyway, they say some quite nice things, especially
about how the albums were overlooked because the singles were so good
(something I have said for years;-)).

Madness - Johnny The Horse
It's really good to have these "Nutty Boys" back in the charts where they
belong. Their previous single "Lovestruck" was a top 10 smash and this
particular release could easily see them repeating that performance. The
bizarrely titled "Johnny The Horse" is taken from a
forthcoming album called "Wonderful". The boy's have moved things in a
slightly different musical direction this time around.
Press releases have described it as sounding like a
cross between Kirsty MacColl, The Pogues & Madness
themselves. Quite a concoction I'm sure you will agree. However the end
result is a very memorable pop song with a chorus so
catchy it deserves a health warning. The single is
released on two discs. Disc one contains a bonus track called "You're
Wonderful" plus the video to Johnny The Horse. Disc two
delivers two brand new tracks called "I Was The One" &
"Dreaming Man". Both of which will not be available on
the album. Nutty day's are here again!!
01-11-1999 Wonderful Madness 12.49
Woody, Suggs and the boys are back with their first new studio album for
fourteen (!) years. All seven original members are present and correct, and
the nutty boys are on top form as they prove they haven't lost the knack of
creating classic pop ditties. Wonderful combines comedy ska with tunes
which recall their classic hits from the late 70s/early 80s. The recent
hit, Lovestruck, is included, and there's also a duet with Ian Dury called
Drip Fed Fred. Produced by long-time partners Clive
Langer and Alan Winstanley, Wonderful is what Madness fans have been
waiting for - it's wonderful!
01-11-1999 Lot: 6cd Box Madness 24.49
The Lot is a handsomely packaged box set, which pulls together all six of
Madness' studio albums. The band were so successful as a singles act (21
hits between 1979 and 1981) that their albums were often unfairly
overlooked. But there was always more to Madness than Top 10 hits. They
were true originals, who took their influences of ska, Motown and music
hall and added in pop sense and cutting social critique to create their own
distinctive sound. It's tricky to pick highlights, but One Step Beyond is a
classic debut, Madness 7 sees the band addresses more political concerns
whilst The Rise And Fall is their most mature and complete work.

PS. Apologies for the lack of a Hangman so far this week. I'll probably
just give it a rest for a week as it's almost the weekend;-)
