Evening all,
here's another review to add to the litany ;0) This
one is from the Independent on Sunday.
I can't bethe only person who heard Madness's reunion
single, 'Lovestruck', and wondered how the sharpest,
brightest record in the charts came to be made by
seven 40-year-olds on their first visit to a studio
together since 1984. The rest of Wonderful poses a
similar question. It's Madness just as you remember
them, with song's so witty, catchy and concise and
playing so disciplined but bouncy that you barely
notice the sadness and social comment beneath the
surface. If you overlook a couple of suspiciously
familiar riffs, all the group can be censured for is
following their early-Eighties formula so
unadventurously. But it's possible to forgive them,
considering how little their music-hall ska has dated
and how much it has influenced contemporary bands from
Blur to No Doubt. Madness can always discover samples
and drum machines on their next album, should they
make one. For now, put on your Doc Martens and dance.
You'd be nutty not to.
Well, there you go, another thumbs up.
Emma ;0)
