Hello!
This is my first message to the list. I have been 'listening in' for a while
but feel that I would like to contribute to the recent discussion about the
lack of interest from the general public to 'Wonderful'. I have been a fan
of Madness almost since the beginning and think that the new album is great
and that JTH would have been a bigger hit than Lovestruck if only it had
received more (any) publicity. However, I find myself wondering how a group
like Madness could have ever hoped to have done any better than they have
for their comeback. How can they hope to compete with the likes of Steps and
The Spice Girls for the attention of the young music buying people of today.
While we as loyal fans will always love and cherish them, maybe younger kids
just think that they are a bunch of old men that had a couple of hits once.
I mean no offense, because Madness mean a great deal to me and always will
but I don't think they can ever hope to match their past glory. I hope that
they will continue to create great new material just don't expect it to
sell.
Thanks for letting me have my say.
David.
