Good morning all you Maddies,
Well the list seems to be functioning again. Look out for all those test
messages coming through any minute now;-) Just thought I would let you know
that Yalplay (www.yalplay.com) are running a new Madness competition where
you can win signed copies of the new album (I'm guessing they mean
"Wonderful" rather than "The Lot") and also some copies of the Doc Martens
book. I shouldn't really tell you all as it reduces the chances of me
winning obviously(;-)) but the more entries they get the better it looks
for Madness and Yalplay going to the bother of doing these things. So
toddle on down there and get your answer in (it is rather a simple question).
While I'm here, Iain asked whether The Lot was a limited release. Well I'm
not certain but I think there will be plenty copies going around until
Christmas at least! I'd guess it'll be as limited as The Business was! I
have to say it is a brilliant release. I listened to all the remastered
albums yesterday and it was sheer heaven. The difference in quality between
them and the original CD releases is breathtaking. I think it made most
difference to The Rise & Fall for me (since I already had the US remastered
Keep Moving). There was added warmth in the saxophone especially and the
crystal clarity enhanced the listening pleasure immensely. And the
difference in the guitar in Night Boat To Cairo was another notable
improvement on ALL the old CD releases including the greatest hits. My only
gripe was that I'm sure there's a tiny gliche in the sound on the third
note of the intro to Keep Moving! But when I stood away from the speakers I
couldn't really notice it so it's probably nothing.
Overall this is essential and is the perfect justification for me buying a
whole new stereo system a couple of months ago. I was hearing bits of
intrumentation on the albums which I haven't heard for years. Brilliant.
And something which hit me more than it has for a while is:
How is it possible that a band can release a single like Driving In My Car,
then four months later release an album like The Rise And Fall????!!! What
absolute geniuses! Talk about night and day!
But does anyone else think that with the way they've packaged it, they've
left the option open for releasing the individual albums in their own
original sleeves (hopefully without the "Compact Price" label) digitally
remastered (and probably without the videoes)???
Also, can anyone with a DVD player tell me if they can play videoes from an
enhanced CD??? They can play video CDs as well as DVDs and CDs, but does
this stretch as far as enhanced CDs???
Cheers for now,
Peter
