Very short, but here it is:

Madness at the Dogs

Madness hosted a charity auction at Walthamstow Dogs on Tuesday night and ended up buying themselves a greyhound! Bidding got quite frantic between the lads and another bidder - and finally the hammer went down on 2,400. The event was raising cash for Cancer Bacup. Their friend, Ian Dury who has cancer was there and Madness plan to name the dog - who can't race for at least a year - after the record they've made together, ‘Drip Fed Fred’.

Suggs said they all clubbed together to buy it but now they have they don't know who's looking after it: "We’ve got like people who own one paw. We’ve got a couple of people who own a couple of toenails. There’s 16 of us altogether who bought that thing - God knows who’s going to be in charge of it!", he told Radio 1. "I’m seeing like a little puppy like that. It’s just one of them terrible clichs, isn’t it? You feel your heart melting. It’s the terrible thing about auctions, though, especially when they’re for a good cause. They start becoming competitive! And we found ourselves with a greyhound that we certainly never intended to buy!" And he adds: "But I’m looking forward to it. You’ll see it in the next year, who knows. Something nice is gonna come of that dog, I’ve got a good feeling. I’m not sure what it is yet."

Also on offer was a Stanley Road Lambretta donated by Paul Weller. A butcher from New York clinched it for 6,400.
