Madness appear in this issue of Mojo Magazine {JAN 2000} in
a short article about the tour which reads as follows:
Although there have been fleeting glimpses of Madness with
their annual Madstock events, this time they're back with
renewed vigour, an appropriately titled new album
'Wonderful', and a proper tour, all 7 original members back
together for the first time since 1986.
"We reformed with a great deal of effort" explains Suggs.
"One person would drunkenly say, 'Yeah, yeah what a great
idea' and the next morning they would say 'Actually I
didn't mean that.' But then Virgin released 'Divine
Madness' and that set the flame to the blue touch paper and
we were all off again"
The show itself is boldly called The Maddest Show On Earth.
"There are a few discussions as to why exactly it is the
maddest show on earth," ponders Suggs. "There's a heated
debate revolving around the fact that Mike, our keyboard
player wants to have a BatCave and dress up like Batman, or
we might have a glittery forest with birds singing. Then
Chris our guitarist wants to have a fruit and veg market so
he can throw stuff at the audience."
What's certain is that the show will include both old
favourites and new, while Ian Dury {health permitting} will
make an appearance at the Wembley shows.
Suggs is adamant that this is not the beginning of a
never-ending jaunt. "Touring is good but we won't be doing
it for too long. After 12 dates I get bored and I hate that
feeling when you're looking at your watch wanting your tea
when you're playing a raunchy rock number. Not that we do
anything like that, of course"
