Just got back from seeing the lads play Bournmouth and thought I would let
the list know how it went..
To start with, the warm up was pretty dire...I think the lads must have been
doing a favour for a mate of a mate to let a dj playing reggae records with
another bloke prancing about trying to explain the history of reggae...They
tried hard but god they were trying...
Next cam on big Phil Jupitus (0/10 for spelling), he compared an audience
participation Beatle Kareoki, which again was ok but not the sort of thing
that went down to well at a Madness concert. A small element of the crowd
insisted on shouting "you fat Bastard" and it all got a bit tedious..he took
it well but it was an audience who were there only for the main event.
MADNESS....The lads came on at 9pm, to OSB, followed by Embarressment. The
audience went mad...Other records played included JTH, Sat Night/Sun Morn,
Our house, Grey day, B&B man, Baggy Trousers, Madness, Drip Fed Fred,
Lovestruck, and many more... A 90 minute set including two returns...
The lads were looking lively, Chas looked like he had lost loads of weight,
Lee had a laugh as always, Chris looked as miserable as usual, Mike was
Mike, Woody and Mark both looked to be having a great time and King Suggs
was as cool and sharp as ever..
The lads played excellent, even though the sound was a bit flat, the
audience all enjoyed it but were not as manic as I have seen.
I dont know why JTH was not a chart hit, the audience went absolutely mental
to it, as they did to Baggy trousers and Madness (plus quite a few more).
All in all a triumphant return for Madness, who quite obviously kick the
shit out of the present boy bang/girl band shite in the charts..
cheers and merry xmas,
Jim the copper.
merchandise...t shirts 15, program 7, mug 6, keyring 6, fleece 40
badges 1...I saw no unofficial stuff outside.
