Hello all in Maddieland,

And a Happy New Year to you all too. I'm just about back up to speed after
reading all the e-mails which were waiting on me getting back and now I can
start sending a few! I thought you all might like to know that in Channel 4
Teletext's Planet Sound end of year polls Madness did rather well with
"Wonderful" voted the 14th best album of 1999 and "Lovestruck" the 17th
best single. These polls were voted for by Planet Sound's army of
journalists, so a hats off to them for showing some excellent taste in
music and not being afraid to admit it! And to prove how good their taste
is, they also had the Ultrasound and Longpigs albums in the Top 10, which
were the next two best albums of the year IMHO.

And while I'm here I'd like to thank everyone who sent in reviews of the
gigs. They made excellent reading upon my return and those recollecting the
Newcastle meet and gig (Mad Bob W and Jenny's especially) brought back
special memories. Although I have to say that I think I have earned an
unfair reputation regarding my car-dodging abilities and my fondness for
Chinese food (I ignored the sausages!). I saw that car coming a mile off
and the driver over-reacted with excessive horn usage!;-) I stopped in
plenty of time with room to spare, although I may have lost a toe or two
if, in the words of THE band, I had me size ten feet! Oh, and I'm actually
very pleased that some of you don't believe I'm a doctor;-) Must be the
youthful looks that throw you. Or is it the inability to string sentences
together in a coherent fashion???

As for Wee Bru wanting to give the barmaid in O'Neil's (and apparently
several other young ladies on his travels) something, all I can say is that
he has the most excellent taste in women, whatever it is he wants to give
them. All that evening, as soon as I spotted a foxy young female, I would
say to Bru only to discover that he had already spotted her and had his eye
on her! In the Tut 'n' Shive we both managed to spot one who was at the
other end of the pub!! (remember the lovely lass with the cute facial
piercings, Stoo?;-)) And how could I compete with the youthful looks and
the dapper style of our very own version of Mickey Pearce?;-) Not to
mention THAT hat! I didn't stand a chance!

Well I think that's about all for now. Have to go running around the lab to
try and lose those extra pounds I piled on over Christmas! I could do with
some tips from the Chas-meister himself, who was looking VERY fit at the
Newcastle gig (and I say that purely in a manly sort of way!).

Cheers for now,
Peter
