Subject: Never Mind the Pritsticks, here's the McMadmeet !!! (part 1)

Hello Mad Ones,

The first ever Scottish Madmeet - 19th Feb.2000.

Here's my recollection of the days events (what I can remember any way) :

Got the bus to Glasgow from Fife & spent the whole 2 hours cutting & changing the dates on posters & fliers that I had printed prior to the release date change, it was a bit of a bumpy ride & I paid the price by cutting my finger with the scissors while trying to cut some fliers - OUCH !!!
Just after I got off the bus I got a call from Wee Stoo saying he was going to be a bit late - something to do with his extended jaunt to London I think - yes i'm jealous :o).
Arrived at Lauders Bar, Sauchiehall Street at 1pm & was first there, soon the chaps started to arrive, MrG (proudly sporting his new tattoo of the Mighty Mr Smash's signature on his arm), Peter & Dave Gardner, Iain Mason (On his lunchbreak from work - smart suit & all) & eventually Wee Stoo.
We all changed into our VOTE FOR FRED T-shirts which I had printed specially for the occasion, had some chips/beers & I got a feeling of dejavu when comments were made about the young barmaid (remember Newcastle !). A jazz band started & we decided it was time to move on but not before leaving some fliers lying about - the look on the band sound man's face was a picture !

The Campaign begins.....Birthday boy Dave switches on the sounds bag (DFF blaring out continuously !!) & we start handing out Fliers - a bit nervously at first.
1st stop Buchanan Galleries & within 2 minutes the security had latched onto us & we were followed everywhere - maybe something to do with Davie offering one of the guards a Flier !!!....so it was a quick exit (after Peter had failed on a mission to see the potential future Mrs Gardner) & onto the streets....more fliers handed out & stuck on cars etc then onto another pub....we stayed there a while, Peter decided to try again back at the Galleries (Lovestruck, he's fallen for someone decidedly better looking than a lampost !!!),
so while waiting for him to return a few more beers were sunk & Dave was caught red handed as he tried to replace all the free postcards in the rack with Vote for Fred fliers (good try mate !).

On Peter's return it was time to hit the street's again - this time George Square & with the drink beginning to take effect we were getting braver.......posters stuck, cars covered & even stopping cars in the road , getting them to open their windows & handing them fliers. If anyone asked who Fred was we simply replied "Fred's the man....buy the single".
Next it was into the pub "13th Note" &, as Stoo has already said, it definitely gets the award for the most posters & fliers in the one place (hopefully the photos will show this).
Dave had to leave from here (other commitments with it being his birthday & all that) so after a rendition of happy birthday we said our farewells to him......
