Hello all in Maddieland,
Lady Madness herself, the right honourable Adele Hargreaves, aka Mrs Fred
C. Threwe, has still been doing all she can to make sure us Maddies know
what is going on the world of Madness, despite not being able to fully
participate on the list these days. She asked me to forward the details to
you all.
For my own part, I can confirm that moves are afoot by Virgin Records to
make sure it is indeed the actual single versions on the remastered Divine
Madness. More news very soon, I hope. Years of anorak-type ranting has, at
last, paid off;-) We will finally have one album with every original 7"
remastered on CD!
Meanwhile, here's Adele's news which should prove quite uplifting to
everyone after the doom and gloom which set in after the failure of DFF in
the charts. It seems that the fans on the list got far more depressed about
it than the band themselves. So here's a list of what's happening:
1. Madstock is back to being totally unlikely, Vince Power at Mean Fiddler
wanted to do an 80's revival festival, Madness don't want to be in it as
they don't see themselves as 80's revival, but as a today band.
2. Adrian Thrills is the chap who is writing the Madness book, currently
scheduled for release in October.
3. Young Guns may now not be shown until September to coincide with the
release of the book & possibly other things. The band fancy doing a Musical
this year, featuring songs of Madness, but nothing definite on that. Its an
idea that's bounced around since 1992, & is back in the topic of conversation.
4. DFF does NOT spell the end of Madness recordings!!! Although there's
nothing more to come from Wonderful, they are hoping to get back in the
studio within the next year. And apparently they are considering the
brilliant suggestion to put "You're Wonderful" forward as a Euro 200 anthem
(what genius came up with that then???;-))
5. With no Madstock it looks like they want to spend the summer in warmer
climes;-) Maddies in the US, you may be having some gigs to go with your US
release of Wonderful.
6 (and finally). For British Maddies: Start saving pennies for Christmas,
cos it looks like we may have another Xmas tour in the UK this year. And
Adele has been kind enough to mention the lack of appearances in Scotland;-)
Wonderful, heart-warming news I'm sure you'll all agree. It seems the lads
themselves are feeling quite happy and positive about the future, and we
have certainly not heard the last of them. We may all be disappointed that
the last couple of singles didn't so well but hey, we know how good the
album is. And could we ever have hoped to have heard such a brilliant album
from Madness two years ago??? So let's be thankful they're happy to be
doing what they're doing and we'll benefit from hearing yet more pop
masterpieces.
And in a similar way to Suggs' "Three Pyramids Club", don't you think it's
quite cool to be the owner of such a brilliant album when there's millions
out there who have no idea whatsoever? We have our own Madness cult now;-)
Any more of this and Madness could become trendy again. Madness have
released an undiscovered (to most) piece of genius!
And another big thanks to Adele for doing all the digging and letting us
know what's happening.
Cheers for now,
Peter
