I had a quick online exchange with Carl this morning
re: Ian Dury, DFF, etc.:

Carl: I personally felt that the song had to be
released whilst he was able to take part in it and not
as some posthumous cynical marketing excercise. Long
Live the Dury!! 

me: A fitting tribute regardless of chart placement--I
just love that expression on his face at the end of
the video when he's being carried around like the Pope

 
Carl:    me too,I know he had a very fond regard for our
appreciation of both him and his work and that look on
his face says it all.  I felt at the time of Drip
Fred's release that chart position aside I thought
that dj's could have played the song just to cheer
Mr.Dury up.
