Well girls and boys... Mr Surveymeister himself (The Langmead) was the last
one in with his poll and that makes it 29 participants in all... an ok-ish
turn out, shall we say! Anyway, I WAS surprised at some of the end results
but as they say... the jury has reached its final verdict and so the people
rest. First off, here's MY votes:
Fave Member: Suggs... just because he's the face mainly, but also for his
down-to-earthness (if such a phrase exists!)
Least Fave Member: Mark (with Woody a VERY close second)... the most
un-Madness of them all, imho!
Fave Single: Our House... always has been, probably always will be!
Least Fave Single: Sweetest Girl... at this point, they had all but lost
interest... in the public AND in themselves!
Fave Album: The Rise & Fall... without a shadow of a doubt, the Maddies at
their musical peak!
Least Fave Album: Mad Not Mad... for obvious reasons! They had decided to
throw in the towel, and the half-heartedness on most tracks showed!
Fave Album Track: The Wizard (Wonderful)... used to be Shadow Of Fear
(Absolutely) but for sheer music brilliance (imho) this is by far the best!
Least Fave Album Track: Chipmunks Are Go (Absolutely)... I could never see
the REASON for this!
Fave Album Sleeve: The Rise & Fall... seven images depicting seven songs...
a gem of an idea!
Least Fave Album Sleeve: Mad Not Mad... they didn't seem THAT happy at the
time, did they?
And the final results are...
Fave Member: This was a very tough one, with SUGGS eventually winning out
with 9 votes, closely followed by Carl on 8 and little Lee on 6.
Least Fave Member: To my surprise, CHRIS won this hands down with 8 votes,
with Mark coming in second with 5 and Mike and Woody both on 4.
Fave Single: ONE STEP BEYOND carried the honours here with 5 votes, being
closely challenged by Our House on 4 and both Michael Caine and It Must Be
Love on 3.
Least Fave Single: No question about this... SWEETEST GIRL obliterated all
opposition with its massive 12 votes, with Uncle Sam coming in 2nd with 7
votes and (surprisingly (for ME, anyway)) Grey Day with 3.
Fave Album: At first I was somewhat surprised that ABSOLUTELY proved to be
the fave album on this list with its 8 votes, but on second thoughts I
realized that this was true seeing that most people on here DO in fact
mention it a lot. What was more of an enigma to me was Keep Moving, which
came in second with 6 votes. One Step Beyond got 5.
Least Fave Album: As with the singles, there were no surprises here as the
award went to MAD NOT MAD with its 14 votes (almost 50% of the votes).
Surprisingly, Keep Moving proved to have as much friends as it had enemies,
as it placed second in this category too with 5 votes, while 7 chipped in
with 3 votes.
Fave Album Track: The winner proved to be the ever-popular BED AND BREAKFAST
MAN (One Step Beyond), which totted up 4 votes. Then, with 2 votes apiece,
came Time (Mad Not Mad), In The Middle Of The Night (One Step Beyond), Mrs.
Hutchinson (7), Disappear (Absolutely) and The Wizard (Wonderful).
Least Fave Album Track: To my complete and utter dismay, this section was
won by one of MY fave album tracks TIME (Mad Not Mad), with 3 votes.
Following close behind were Benny Bullfrog (7) and Solid Gone (Absolutely),
both on 2.
Fave Album Sleeve: The joint winners of this category were THE RISE & FALL
and 7, both with 6 votes. Then came Wonderful, One Step Beyond and
Absolutely with 4.
Least Fave Album Sleeve: Again no doubts about this one... MAD NOT MAD was
at the top of the pile with 11 votes, followed by Keep Moving with 7 votes
and (again surprisingly, and again to ME!) 7 with 3 votes.
And there you have it, girls and boys. Thank you all for making it possible
and I'll write in sporadically this week (my last as a single man), but I'll
resume my writing habits sometime after mid-May. Take care one and all ~~
