Hi all -
Okay, in spirit I'm with you...I'm deleting most of the the emails unread
these days. BUT in all honesty, I can't cast any stones because I've not
done anything about improving the situation.
To sign up for any mailing list, not add anything, and then chastise that
mailing list for not entertaining you is a tad bit pompous and shame on
anyone who would do such a thing. This is do-it-youself entertainment.
To steal a line from a horribly overplayed song from last year, "if
you're bored then you're boring." The mailing list thrives on
participation, and complaining about those who are at least participating
only lessens participation without improving the *quality* of
participation.
Don't complain that the conversation isn't interesting...start an
interesting conversation.
Moan about the good old days all you want, but some of you moaners were
part of the reason the good old days *were* the good old days...the good
old days when YOU took and active part in the list and made it the fun,
mad place it was. This is *not* directed at any one person. I can easily
think of a dozen of you who's posts to the mailing list I looked forward
to and enjoyed, who now only participate only once in a blue moon or not
at all, and this group is lessened by your absence. I realize life
changes and that jobs, relationships, and such take up time and it's easy
to let your mailing list buddies slip by the wayside. I'm as guilty of
it as any one else.
If each of us (yes, I include myself and shame on me as well) who haven't
been participating actively would take a minute, once every two weeks
even, to comment on another person's post, ask a question (or answer
one), mention a song they've been listening to, a particular lyric that
struck them just right, or their most recent Mad purchase, the quality of
posts would go up, discussion would increase, and it's wouldn't be up to
a few people to carry the rest of us. I think it's worth the effort, and
I will try to do my part.
I'll step down off my soap box now.
