Hello all in Maddieland,
Well I'm just back from the record shops with my remastered Divine Madness
in hand. Oh, the joy. For an anorak like myself it is the business. I can't
fully appreciate the digital remastering on the computer so I can't wait to
get home and blast it out a proper stereo system but still, it sounds good.
And I'm glad to see my trainspotter tendencies didn't go un-noticed by
Virgin and they went out of their way to find The Prince with the full
echo-ey fade out and The Return Of The Los Palmas 7 with the crowd noises
at the start. The single version of the latter sounds especially wonderful
remastered.
So the single versions which were not on the original are all there, as
close as Virgin could get. Unfortunately they didn't have master copies of
the singles of House Of Fun (with fairground organ on the fade-out) or Shut
Up (a full 35 seconds short thanks to Complete Madness), so they remain
collectors' items on the US albums. But they tried as hard as they could to
get all the single versions on this, making it the definitive singles
collection.
I just can't wait to get home and listen to all those singles like The Sun
And The Rain and (Waiting For The) Ghost Train in all their glory. And it
means I can re-do my minidisc compilations without having to play around
with the recording levels;-)
Cheers,
Peter
