1. The night before Rhythmstock in Brixton, the
compere Phil Jupitus (every Madness fan's favourite
comedian - he of the Christmas tour, TFI Friday, DFF
video and "This is your life") was doing a comedy slot
in Dublin. I hadn't stalked anybody for a long time
(almost weeks!) so I thought I'd pop in and slot a few
fanzines backstage before the gig especially as he is
a real fan and was on page two of the current issue in
full gloss. Anyway, he popped out before the gig and
said thanks. I got talking to him at the break and he
was telling me that Fatboy Slim had his copy of 'One
Step Beyond' because he wanted to sample that bit from
'Nutty Theme' where Suggs says 'Rhythm' for a song of
his. He also told me that it was he who wrote the
'Vote For Fred' manifesto. Remember, Frederick C.
Threwe and all that. Anyway, he promised to do an
interview for my fanzine (whether that happens or not
is another thing) and gave me his e - mail
address...........A really nice guy.
2. Before I set up my own fanzine, I used to write
for and type up the other Madness fanzine "Nut Inc".
The week before Madstock IV, I was typing up a review
of a gig from the "Mad Not Mad" tour in late '85. The
guy who wrote the article mentioned that the support
band "The Friday Club" were very good. (For those who
don't know, they were the last signing to the two -
tone label and played support to Madness for 39 gigs
in the last ever proper tour last time around).
Anyway, when I got to London my brother , who
lives there asked me "Have you ever heard of The
Friday Club?" A positive response brought the
following reply "Well, I've been going out with the
lead singer for the last three years". So many
stories did I hear but two will be in Rob Hazelby's
M.I.S. bulletin this sunday. If you think that it's a
small world, well the bass player and songwriter from
"Jo Boxers" (who also played support to Madness in
1983) works for my brother. He's doing the music for
the wedding in august as that is when they are getting
married.................
