Appologies if this has made it through before...as I've been having trouble
getting through...
Does anyone have any interesting stories of meetings with members of the
group...I'm thinking about the more unusual type of meeting, not the 'I was
waiting back stage when'....stories. Unlikely meetings or embarrassing
moments!
For myself, I've only ever met Suggs, Chris and Lee. The Chris and Lee
story
is very interesting and amusing but fairly long so I'll leave it for
another
day....and despite it being like one of these dreams I've read here, it's
completely true! I recounted it to Wood Green Pete (is that right?) at the
Ian Dury madmeet.
As for Suggs.....I used to frequent a club called 'The Brain' in Wardour
St,
mainly because I could get in free as a mate was a DJ there, incidentally
one of the owners was Shaun McClusky, ex-JoBoxers!! This one night I was
chatting to a guy who said he worked with The Farm....I didn't want to bore
him by continually referring to Suggs/Madness....in conversation he
mentioned that a few of The Farm might be down later, as it turned out they
did and who should be with them......yes the great Lord Suggs. One of my
mates came over to me on the dance floor to tell me of Suggs' arrival...of
course I didn't believe him...but it was true.
I walked across to the top of the stairs, where he was, and only then did I
realise that i couldn't think of anything to say.....nothing, not a
sausage.....bugger. So I held out my hand and shook his and said how
brilliant it was to meet him and here's the really excruciating
embarrassing
bit.......I said, "thanks for all the years of nuttiness"......I nearly
died
when I heard what my gob had spilled out, duh what a prat, I thought I
would
regret it for ever, however.........
.......At the end of the same week 'The Nutty Boys' were playing at 'The
Powerhaus' in Islington and I went with my brother (infamous bootlegger,
used to work in Camden Market...Goose recordings anyone?), at some point I
realised that Suggs was standing not far away, by the bar......here was my
chance to make up for my earlier faux paux....I approached the man and
appologised for the previous meeting, he instantly remembered and
laughed......all was fixed, phew that was better.
Steve
PS: Remember that I thought that The Lee and Chris story was long!!
PPS: Oh and that bloke I was talking to in the club.......goes by the
nickname of 'Chalky', as I found out later...well I didn't recognise him!!!
