Hi all,

just thought I'd share this little nugget of info I finally confirmed
today.

For the past 20 years it's been a question on my mind. In 1980
UK band Madness released an EP titled Work Rest & Play. The main
track was Night Boat To Cairo, a storming piece of UK revival ska.

The main interest for Wailers fans though is track No.4, "Don't Quote
Me On That", which gives the composers credit to Carl Smythe (aka
Chas Smash) of Madness, and one Peter Tosh!

In the record, which is a response to some misquoted comments by the
Madness man about racial matters, Carl says " I'd like to say thank
you to Pete, Peter Tosh..."

For years I wondered how two members of my favourite bands came to
collaborate, and now I have the answer, courtesy of the ever wonderful
Mr Smythe himself: They didn't!!!

Apparentley, Tosh was credited for a borrowed bassline, but I've can't
place tyhis in any Tosh song. Carl tells me that he was "mis-credited"
and to "forgive him, but he can't remember where the bassline comes
from".

Just thought I'd share that with you all.

Incidentley the track in question, "Don't Me On That" was also pressed
on a rare 500 copies only promo, which coincidentley edited the Tosh
credits from the recording, although the label still gave him the
co-writers credit.

All the best
Andy
